Nominations are Open!

Nominations for Little Black Dress 2022 are now open! Please read the guidelines below, even if you regularly participate in exchanges.

1. All characters must be disambiguated, even if they wouldn't usually need to be. Disambiguation means putting the fandom name in parentheses next to the character e.g. Marta Cabrera (Knives Out). It's very possible several characters will be nominated in several different canon iterations, so please disambiguate as specifically as possible or characters will go wandering. If you nominate Leia Organa in Star Wars—All Media Types, disambiguate with (SW—AMT) and not just Star Wars.

2. For big sprawling canons, make sure you only nominate All Media Types if you are truly requesting that character within any media type. Note that you cannot DNW a subset of canon. For instance, if you would like Leia paired with any character in any Star Wars media except for the video games, you cannot request her in Star Wars—All Media Types and DNW video game pairings. You can, however, request her in the Original Trilogy and then opt-in for crossovers in any Star Wars media except for video games. If in doubt, nominate your character in a smaller piece of your canon and opt-in to the larger one.

3. As a general note, please bear in mind that the fandom you nominate a character under will determine the available set of characters to ship them with, so consider this carefully.

4. Participants may nominate 1-10 characters in 1-10 fandoms.

More specific guidelines:

  • For DC Comics and Marvel Comics, please nominate all main-continuity characters under the umbrella title (e.g. DC Comics), and all titles that take place outside of main continuity under their respective titles (e.g. Bombshells, Arkham Knight). Individual titles and era-specific runs may also be nominated (e.g. DC Comics New Earth). For alternate versions of characters that happen within the main continuity/storyline, nominate them with an informative designation under the main DC Comics/Marvel Comics tag (e.g. HYDRA!Steve Rogers).

  • For DC's Arrowverse, due to the complexity and intricacy of the crossovers, crossover episodes will be treated as episodes that are shared equally between the relevant shows. That is to say, all crossover episodes that one show participated in count as part of that show, even if they are technically part of a different series. For example, the Elseworld's crossover story is considered part of Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl, but not Legends of Tomorrow or Black Lightning. This does not apply to canons outside of Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning who participated in the crossovers.

  • For RPF, characters should be nominated in the fandom that you want to be considered the shared "canon" for purposes of offering/requesting. Anyone you offer can be paired with anyone who shares the canon. So if you nominate Socrates as "Philosophy RPF," he could be paired with anyone who is defined as a philosopher. But if you nominate him in "Classical Athens RPF," he could be paired with anyone who is defined as living in Classical Athens.

  • For characters with multiple gender paths in canon—usually but not exclusively video-games—you may nominate them as the gender you prefer (e.g. M!PC, F!PC)

  • You are welcome to nominate and then request rule!63 Little-Black-Dresses, monster versions of characters, etc. using the same designation as above.

The 2022 Tagset can be found here. Nominations will remain open for one week, until 9am UTC April 30 2022 (click here for a countdown). All of the relationship types available (F/F, F/F/F, F/F/M, F/M) involve female characters in some way, so are M/M ships not allowed in this event?

Hi! Is it ok to DNW LBD/people older than (insert age) if it still leaves many other options to pair the LBD with?

I have a weird question. Is it okay to do a crossover LBD? I still have enough distinct fandoms to meet the requirements even if this isn't okay. I was thinking of formatting it like G: Character A (Fandom 1)/Fandom 2.

For example:
G: Fujiwara Zakuro (TMM)/Sailor Moon Character

Zakuro is in odd spot because I NoTP her with everyone in Tokyo Mew Mew, but she's my LBD in terms of crossover ships with every other magical girl fandom. Putting her under the fandom normally wouldn't be very fair to someone who got matched to me. So the gist of it was trying to come up with a good way to nominate her that wouldn't allow for a mismatch. I only used the group format there because it was a well known one for the example.

It's not a big deal if this isn't doable.

Can you DNW a particular version of a character, if there are multiple versions?

I have a question about the "All Media Types" thing - I was hoping to request Daniel Jackson of SG1, and he's currently nominated under "Stargate All Media Types" but I have never seen Stargate Universe which would qualify under than umbrella, though I have seen Atlantis and would welcome Atlantis character pairings. It looks like so far, only SG1 and Atlantis characters have been nominated under all Media types, but I'm still nervous about getting a character I know nothing about.

I'm going to go ahead and nominate him solely under SG1 just in case, but is there a way to clarify with the nominator and/or any offers that I don't want Universe characters if I did request all media types? I worry that I'd sorta be guaranteed NOT to get him if I nominate/request him under the more specific fandom type as opposed to the one that has a bunch of nominations so far.

OK perfect - that definitely makes sense. I'll definitely opt in via my letter/optional details to Atlantis characters as well as other crossovers with requested characters/fandoms, so that should help there.

I see duplicate characters with different disambiguations in Arcane (Vi and Jinx)

Assassin's Creed - Valhalla

Hi! Earlier I tried to nominate some characters under Assassin's Creed - Valhalla, but I'm not sure what's happened as it seems to have gone through as Assassin's Creed - All Media Types instead (and I can't change it). The actual characters haven't been accepted yet, but they're all disambiguated with (Assassin's Creed - Valhalla). Would it be possible to change AMT to the specific game, Valhalla, please? If there's something I can do to fix it my end, please let me know. Thank you!

DC

This is not my nomination.

Under Arrow (TV 2012) I saw that there is Kara Danvers (Arrowverse (TV 2012)). This didn't wander over from Supergirl (TV 2015) as that Kara Danvers has a different disambiguation. I think the nominator might have nominated DC's Arrowverse as the fandom, but AO3 has it synned with the Arrow TV show and if the show is accepted it will automatically turn Arrowverse nominations into the show.

Also Bruce Wayne (DC Comics) had wandered into DC Extended Universe.

Heads up, "Bruce Wayne (DC Comics)" is currently nominated under "The Batman (Movie 2022)."
